始建于1917年的名人公館，曾是英國商人馬立斯先生的官邸，他是當時上海灘娛樂界跑狗場的老板（如今的上海文化廣場，坐落于茂名路）。1927年蔣介石和宋美齡在此舉行訂婚儀式并下榻居住于此。1945年期間這里一度成為國民黨勵志社社部，1949年解放后，被中國共產(chǎn)黨華東局接管。上海第一位市長陳毅市長任期內(nèi)在此樓辦公。
Purchased in 1916 by HE Morriss (Villa No. 1 built in 1917, originally 100-acres of land), a British businessman who also owned the first grey hound racing track in Shanghai. In 1927, Chiang Kai-Shek and Madame Soong May-Ling held their engagement ceremony here and Madame Song also had her own favorite room in the building. During the War of Liberation (1946-1949), the hotel served as the headquarters for the Communist Party in Shanghai. After the foundation of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, the building was taken over by the East China Bureau of the Communist Party and Shanghai’s first mayor, Chen Yi, used the building as his official office and residence during his term. 
 
這棟樓是典型的英國古典主義風格建筑，雖是兩層樓磚木結構住宅，但其建筑格局宏偉，平緩的四坡頂屋面，覆蓋著紅色洋瓦。
This building is constructed in the classic colonial British heritage style. Its architectural pattern is so magnificent, an outstanding example of wood stone and brick structures, covered with a classic red tile roof.
 
別墅南面窗戶正對大片的草坪。北面是別墅主入口，對著橢圓形的小草坪，草坪中央有個漂亮的噴水池。建筑平面以客廳為中軸線，兩側略向外突出，但并不嚴格對稱。一進門有個小的門廳，頂上鑲嵌著藍色冰裂紋的玻璃天棚，天棚中有一塊方形的黃色玻璃，中間嵌著一顆紅色的五角星，藍色的光將門廳的地板也染成了藍色。再進去便是客廳，全部用柚木做護墻板和室內(nèi)裝飾，地面鋪著棋盤格黑色條紋的大理石地磚。餐廳在客廳的西側，最西面有個半圓形的龕室，窗外的美景通過大面積的窗戶透進屋來，精美的水晶吊燈在廳中熠熠生輝。
The Morris Residence Villa’s south windows face a large lawn. The main entrance is located on its northern side, a smaller lawn with fountain can be seen there. The architecture lays on a single axis, projecting outward on both sides, but not strictly symmetrical. Through the hallway, high above the visitors is the glass ceiling is a blue iced glass inlay. A red five-pointed star on a yellow smaller glass adorns the whole ceiling. The living room is decorated by teak, the floor seems like a chessboard covered with black striped marble. The dining room is situated on the west of the living room, a very small semicircle shrine is standing there. Under the sparkling crystal chandelier, the beautiful landscape can be seen through the bright windows which people can enjoy when dining here.  

上二樓的樓梯正對著大門，樓梯欄桿上雕刻著精美西式花樣。但二樓的屏隔上卻裝飾有雙獅戲球、孔雀開屏、萬年長青圖案，窗格上則全是吉羊，雙線，連環(huán)，方勝等中國傳統(tǒng)符號，部分家具也是中國古典式樣的紅木家具，透露出主人對中國文化的熱愛。二樓設有寬敞的露天陽臺，飾有燭臺狀欄桿、平拱的百葉木窗。
Opposite the main entrance is the staircase to the second storey, railings on both sides are carved exquisite patterns like Two Lions Playing with a Ball, The Peacock Spreads Its Tail, An Evergreen Tree and some traditional Chinese symbols like Ji Yang (a Chinese character symbolizes good fortune), Shuang Xian (double lines), Shuang Huan (chain of rings), Fang Sheng (a piece of jewelry), part of the furniture is very typical mahogany with unique Chinese characteristics. All of them show the old owner’s passion for the Chinese culture. There is a spacious outdoor terrace on the second storey, embellished by candlestick-like railing and shuttered wooden windows.
 
名人公館目前在一樓擁有四間會議室：臥茵，攬勝，綺思，餐櫻。二樓及三樓擁有8間風格各異的臥室。

Xin Yuan Lou was built in 1930 as the third residence on the property. It was used by the Japanese Mitsui Group to serve as their South China regional office in the late 1930s. When war broke out between the Chinese and Japanese, the building was taken over by the Japanese military high command. At the end of the war, the Kuomintang government took the building back from the Japanese and after liberation in 1949, the building was taken over by the East China Bureau of the Communist Party. Nowadays it has become a three-storey Chinese restaurant providing Cantonese and Shanghainese delicacies. The main dining room plus 8 private dining suites, can seat between 6 and 35 guests. Themed private dining suites features a distinctive design which creating an elegant atmosphere of Chinese culture like lyre-playing, chess, calligraphy and painting. Several private dining rooms also have their own balconies overlooking the garden. Whatever in a classic British style or with the traditional Shanghainense highlights, the signature afternoon tea is the perfect way to ease the day.

Designed and built by Mr. Henry Morriss, the son of H.E Morris in the 1930s, This Art Deco Villa is set within manicured gardens and has hosted numerous Chinese and global leaders, including US President Richard Nixon and Prince William.
 
這是一棟造型簡約但裝飾精美的裝飾藝術派建筑。簡約的清水紅磚外墻，墻上部由水平的白色線條勒圈，水平帶窗，平緩四坡瓦頂。作為一棟20世紀20年代的住宅，該建筑已經(jīng)完全和歐洲當時最新的現(xiàn)代建筑接軌。
The villa is a beautifully decorated Art Deco architecture design. Its wall section has a white line circle, covered with flat tiles. Although it was built during the 1920’s, it is completely geared to international and European modern standards.
 
正門前與草地相連有水泥地坪，較正門稍寬的四級水泥石板臺階兩側是花臺，植以鮮花。樓底設有長廊，臺階下是一大片草坪。門廳鋪有綠黃大理石地坪，白色加咖啡色邊的地磚以九宮格之形整齊鑲嵌其中。里面有極為華美的大理石柱子，還有一組罕見的巨大吊燈。
A terrace links the main entrance and its lawn with four stone steps on both sides and fresh flowers planted in flower beds throughout the year. The villa is also equipped with a long, peaceful corridor on the ground floor and a large lawn in front of it. The hall is fascinating with its yellow-green marble floor, white and coffee lined ground brick. Exquisite marble pillars also draw tourist’s attention , as well as a pair of rare chandeliers.
 
樓內(nèi)最美的要數(shù)許多別致的圓形窗和彩色的玻璃。圓形窗上刻有楊柳、白石和竹子等，畫面十分精致，宛若一幅幅中國傳統(tǒng)國畫中的工筆畫；朝東的窗戶上彩色玻璃圖案取材自熱帶國度的動植物，色彩瑰麗，栩栩如生：老虎在湖邊飲水，兩邊高大的熱帶植物相映成趣。當陽光從屋外穿透玻璃時，那些美麗的圖案仿佛活了起來，圖案投射在地上，映出斑斕的色彩。這些精美的彩繪玻璃，據(jù)說來自徐家匯天主教堂創(chuàng)辦的土山灣孤兒工藝院，土山灣采用的是在玻璃上繪圖后，經(jīng)過燒制、鑲嵌等工序制作的工藝，其色彩完全滲入玻璃質(zhì)料中，即使在室外也永不褪色。
However, the most marvelous decoration of the villa is the circle windows and colorful glass. It features a sculpture of willow, stone, bamboo creating a traditional Chinese painting. Meanwhile, the animal pattern on the east window is brightly colorful. When the sunshine penetrates the glass, all these amazing portraits are so life-like as if they are moving and talking. You will find a tiger drinking by the lake surrounded by tropical plants. According to saying, this kind of glass production craft originated from Tou Se-We Orphanage founded by a church. After heating and mounting, the color permeate will never fade.
 
總統(tǒng)樓一樓有一尊之前老別墅遺留下的銅獸，擁有虎頭，豹身，獅尾，熊掌，透露出王者風范。據(jù)說這是一尊雄獸而大英博物館內(nèi)有一尊同樣的雌性銅獸。
A beast statue made of bronze is found on the ground floor just in front of the stairs. Vividly revealing the king’s strength, it possesses tiger’s head, leopard’s body, lion’s tail and bear paw. Located in the south gardens, are the partial remains of a Taoist Temple originating from the Southern Song Dynasty period (estimated to be 600-700 years old). There is also a path which leads to the oldest Water Well in urban Shanghai. In the year 1404 of the Ming Dynasty, the Well Temple was built offering tranquillity and spirituality in Taoist traditions. This ancestral temple is an outstanding example of a well preserved building and its cultural value is very precious. Nowadays the garden has become an ideal venue for outside wedding ceremonies.

The architecture is fully integrated in the design of the Old Shanghai style with contemporary art. The oval courtyard is as high as nine stories, a huge crystal chandelier hangs on both sides.
